Message from

president

“our focus will be on building Stronger Students, Stronger Voices, and a Stronger Union. Our strength lies in our unity.”

Dear Union Members,

I’m Edison Ng, a fourth-year LKCMedicine student and the 34th President of the NTU Students’ Union.

It is an immense honour to lead this Union — an organisation I’ve served since my first year. From my early days in the Relations and Research Committee, leading our Union’s research arm, I saw how impactful our voices could be. That experience solidified my belief in the power of our voices, and led me to continue in the Union, in both the Communications and Policy Divisions.

My journey has always been driven by a simple belief: students hold the power to create real, lasting change. Throughout the years, my team and I overcame challenges while advocating for our student’s welfare and achieved triumphs for students — from big initiatives like the newly-launched Exam Gray Buses, opening up new exam study spaces, and empowering the new sustainability division, to smaller improvements like brightening the spaces in the HIVE, and pest-control around campus.

This year, we move forward under a guiding principle: Strength through Unity.

To me, this means recognising that every student voice matters — and that the real strength of our Union lies not in any single individual or group, but in the collective spirit of our student body. Whether it’s policy change, ground-up initiatives, or shaping the future of student life, unity is what gives our actions weight.

Our focus this term is to build Stronger Students, Stronger Voices, and a Stronger Union. We believe in a Union where students are supported to grow, where advocacy is bold and transparent, and where no one is left behind. But success depends on all of us — not just as individual students but as a united Students’ Union. Together, let us strive to create an environment where every student can thrive, where decisions are transparent, and every voice is heard.

Warm regards,

Edison Ng

President, 34th NTU Students’ Union

Our Elections Process

At NTUSU, leadership begins with you.

Every academic year, NTU undergraduate students elect their peers to represent their interests, voice concerns, and shape campus life. Whether you’re passionate about change or simply want to support those who are, our elections process ensures every voice counts.

  • Union elections are held annually in September. The elections are conducted via a university-wide online voting system, where every NTU Undergraduate is eligible to vote.

The EXCO elections follow a two-tiered process.

Students first run to be Union Executive Committee Representatives (UECR) of their respective constituent clubs (e.g., Academic Clubs, Cultural Activities Club, Sports Club). These candidates are standing to represent their club at the Union level.

Once elected as UEC Representatives, candidates will participate in the Council Rally, where the newly elected Presidents of all constituent clubs form the Union Council. This Council will vote to appoint the UEC Representatives into specific EXCO positions — such as President, Hon. General Secretary, and other portfolios.

The election process is managed by the Union Election Committee and supervised by the NTU Student Affairs Office, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability at every step.

  • Any full-time NTU undergraduate student in good academic and disciplinary standing can run, regardless of faculty, year, or prior experience. You must run as a UEC Representative in one of the constituent clubs, and cannot be under academic probation.

  • You’ll need to:

    1. Submit a nomination form during the official nomination period, with a proposer and seconder (both NTU undergraduates).

    2. Campaign in your constituent club for the role of Union Executive Committee Representative.

    3. If elected, participate in the Council Elections, where you may be appointed to an EXCO position.

  • While exact dates are released each year, the general timeline follows:

    1. Nomination Period – Submit your candidacy.

    2. Campaigning & Rally – Public campaign within your constituent club.

    3. Voting Day – University-wide student voting.

    4. Council Rally – Newly elected constituent club Presidents vote to appoint EXCO roles from among the UECRs.

  • Union Committees and offices

Union Committees are specialised arms of NTUSU that implement initiatives across key domains such as welfare, events, representation, and research. Each committee is overseen by an EXCO member, ensuring alignment with the Union’s strategic direction.

These committees serve as the operational engine of the Union, translating vision into action for the benefit of the student body.

  • Union Council

The Union Council is NTUSU’s representative and legislative body, made up of elected leaders from each of the Union’s constituent clubs. It reviews and votes on major regulations, policy proposals, and Union budget, ensuring accountability and alignment with the student population’s needs.

As the governing authority within the Union, it plays a crucial role in providing oversight, continuity, and collective direction.
