CCAs of NTU 25’: NTU Windsurfing
Written by: Ng Wei Ze, Vice-President
On my first day of windsurfing, I watched the buildings turn into tiny LEGO blocks as I drifted closer and closer to the anchored container vessels out at sea. The wind had taken me on a one-way trip towards Batam, and for a moment, I genuinely panicked. Thankfully, our instructor had been keeping a close eye on me and sped over on her small craft to tow me back to shore.
That was my first day.
And yet, I came back the very next day — hoping to chase the same thrill I had just experienced.
Why Join NTU Windsurfing?
NTU Windsurfing is a club for anyone looking to break free from the typical school routine and try something bold! You don’t need any prior experience — we have a dedicated instructor to guide you every step of the way. Ask any of our seniors; almost all of us started as complete beginners too.
Whether you're here to make the most of your weekends, pick up a new hobby, or aspire to compete in regattas, our club welcomes you with open arms — and maybe with a life vest too.
At NTU Windsurfing, we aim to build a vibrant community of students and alumni who grow together — and maybe accidentally sail a little too close to port once in a while.
What We Do: From Beginner to Regatta-Ready
Our sea training takes place on weekends at Constant Wind, Changi Coast Park. First-timers go through our Beginner Course, where structured lessons teach you how to balance, steer, tack, jibe, and eventually catch the wind like a pro.
Once you gain more experience, you can progress to our Intermediate Course, where you'll learn more advanced techniques. After that, you may choose to enroll in our Racer Course, where we’ll equip you with everything you need to excel in regattas. From time to time, we also encourage our members to participate in windsurfing competitions to hone their skills and challenge themselves further.
Besides sea training, we also conduct land training at NTU once a week on weekdays. This helps us stay fit, sharp, and ready to battle the wind out at sea.
More Than a Sport: The Windsurfing Family
While we specialise in windsurfing, most of our fondest memories come from the time we spend together outside the water — from late-night suppers to club camps, and festive celebrations like Chinese New Year and Christmas!
We bond over sore arms, sunburns, inside jokes, and even tow-back stories. We celebrate each other’s progress and laugh off every fall and mistake. The club is chill, close-knit, and welcoming. You’ll meet all sorts of people — from competitive athletes to complete beginners. Everyone finds their place.
How to Join the Fun
We’ll be at Welcome Week from 11–13 August! Come down to meet us and try out our land simulator. If you have any questions, our seniors will be more than happy to guide you and share their experiences (including their embarrassing first-day stories 😆).
No experience? No problem. You just need an open mind and a love for adventure.
Final Words Before You Catch the Wind
NTU Windsurfing isn’t just a place to learn a sport — it’s a space to discover new passions, meet amazing people, and create moments that make you forget school exists, even just for a little while.
Sailing into the sunset is something you’ll never forget.
So if you’re looking for something different, refreshing, and slightly chaotic in the best way — we welcome you with open arms to NTU Windsurfing!
